Godsmania – Free Download Single

I have covered Godsmania ever since hearing their excellent 1980’s vintage sounding single Thanks But No Thanks early last year. They have now released a free download (well free as in exchange for your e-mail addy) on Oddbox Records.

It’s called Higher Lower and is backed with Now It’s Coming On. The former is not as lo-fi as previous efforts by the band. It’s packed with the sounds of a mournful piano/synth and is reminiscent of Ricochet era Mighty Lemon Drops. On the latter once more going there is a more thorough sound production wise and it works to great effect especially when somberly vocals kick in. Well worth the download.

indie mp3 faves Godsmania have released a free 2 track download single via Spanner Records today. If you like your indiepop of the vintage 1980-ish variety then you can’t go far wrong with this lot especially on the “a” side Stupid Lies which is an absolute belter.

Godsmania – Tyre Kicker EP Free Download

I reviewed Godsmania’s Tyre Kicker EP back in April. It has now sold out so the label, Spanner Records, have made it available as a free download. It’s well worth getting hold off for tracks like Thanks But No Thanks and All Gone Wrong Today.

The next release on the label will be a free download Godsmania single, featuring two new songs. They write that “the A- side has just been loaded onto the Godsmania myspace, and was in part written as an angry reaction to the B N P results in the recent elections.“

Godsmania were one of my favourite finds of 2008 and their vintage indie pop sound fitted in well with me. Ben (who is Godsmania) has now set up his own label called Spanner Records and it’s his own outfit that kicks things off with the Tyre Kicker EP.

Thanks But No Thanks, the track which originally grabbed my attention, opens the proceedings. In my original indie mp3 piece I stated that it was pure vintage 1980’s jangle pop which sounds like I Ludicrous if they signed for Subway and I see no reason to move away from that view point!

I like the way the next two tracks end abruptly – no copping out with fade outs here! This is real in your face DIY indie pop which reminds me of several bands on the smaller labels that existed two decades ago.

Lost In You slows the EP’s pace right down and with it’s catchy hooks is reminiscent of World Without End era Lemon Drops. All Gone Wrong Today brings it all to a close and it’s a stormer. Fast frantic jangle pop. The way it should be.
