It’s getting a bit packed in the Buffalo Bar as us and the twee as fuck crowd awaits the return of indie darlings The Primitives but there is still plenty of space at the front as the Socialist Leisure Party stroll onto the stage. The frontman dresses like a quintessential Englishman who is about to go punting whilst his band mates haven’t made an effort at all. Musically they are like a cross between The Jasmine Minks and The Close Lobsters but without the brilliance of either although that said they do hint at producing a great song – but not just yet.
Manc janglers Amida follow and open with their excellent Class of 2000 single which gets a few feet moving none more so than a certain Wee Popper whose label recently released their If The Wave Loves Two Suns EP which they pillage tonight. The band are confident, play tight and by the end of their set we applaud wildly.

And so Coventry’s finest indie poppers hit the stage. To be honest we were not expecting great things but boy did they prove us wrong. Tracy Tracy should bottle up whatever it she uses and flog it to L’Oréal post haste as she looks exactly the same as almost two decades earlier whilst, like her, the band’s songs haven’t aged either.
The bulk of the set was based on the Lazy releases and the Lovely album. Opening with I’ll Stick With You they get the crowd moshing wildly with Really Stupid. The singles come thick and fast although b-sides such as (We’ve) Found A Way (To The Sun) make a welcome appearance.
This is our 10th best song Paul Court declares as Crash kicks in and mayhem ensures once more spilling over into Stop Killing Me. They finish with one of their most underrated singles in the shape of You Are The Way and it’s a fitting end. The band walk off stage and despite the requests there is no encore. DJ Rocker hits the decks and it’s all over. The Primitives – they are worth it!
Amida – You’ve changed, baby girl
Amida – Class of 2000
Socialist Leisure Party – Turktown Saints
