Arthur and Martha’s second single Music For Hairproducts is a taster for their forthcoming Navigation album. It’s not as immediately accessible as their previous single Autovia despite it being a much more poppier effort.
Whilst the electro pop beats are pretty much at home (think OMD or PSB) Alice Hubley’s vocals sound as they would be better suited with a guitar based track rather than here. That said they blend in nicely over the AUW remix which has a harder, almost techno dancefloor vibe. The Declining Winter Remix brings a classical touch of melodrama to the song but I am wondering what is the point by the time it finishes.
Luckily things get back on track with Dance Dance Dance where Adam Cresswell takes over on vocals. It’s a laid back pop song combining the present with their indie pop past. In fact it sounds like Creswell’s previous act Saloon being remixed. Another remix finishes the EP – this time Autovia gets the treatment but it’s unnecessary to say the least seeing as the original is nearly damn perfect.
A strange EP – save your pennies and invest in the album which is being released next week.
