For some reason, when I hear the mention of ‘female singer-songwriter’ I tend to think of Polly Harvey as the ‘flagship’ performer. Well Allison Weiss is such a creature and the comparison is valid on this occasion. She harks from Georgia USA and has self released no less than five mini-albums over the past year or so, the latest of which is this little six-track wonder.
She cites one of her passions in life as being “the concept of love” and that’s pretty much what she tells tale of. She waxes lyrical about relationships and the disappointments of such futile ventures with a nonchalant carefree swagger, but at the tender age of 21 I guess that’s what you’d expect. Musically, it’s pretty much stripped down to guitar and drums, but this collection suggests the potential is there for a broader spectrum should the lady desire.
Her true vocation is that of graphic design student for what it’s worth and so strumming guitar whilst penning casual ditties is a mere hobby. The manner in which she delivers songs pretty much illustrates that ethos and that’s no bad thing. The melodies are neat and uncomplicated and the words give out an odd feeling of comfort amongst despair, which is something we can all do with! Let’s face it, she’s got plenty of time ahead of her to gain the angle of resentment that Polly J has!!

the alison weiss record is self released, we just shipped our promos out together to save on shipping, thanks for the forever coverage though. mike
